Any attempt to find historical pinnings for religion is doomed to failure. Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the others are so wrapped up in the retention and exercise of power by those who claim to speak for their saviours over the believers that any truth has been lost long ago. That Moslem professor, or whatever he claims to be, is not even close to a radical at all, but he is extremely dangerous in how he frames everything as East vs West. He sees the blind faith and ignorance of the masses as better than enlightened thought, which is ironic when Muhammend is cast as an enlightened reformer. All religions are horrible, but Islam is the most repressive. And Tom Holland looks like a weird stalker lurking in the background, rather than the introspective seeker of truth he undoubtedly hopes to appear as. I suppose it’s admirable he made the effort to find a connection at the source, but one has to question if he learned anything more than he could have by popping round a mosque in London. Indeed, he seems more confused at the end than enlightened.

Just because Mohammad claims to have heard a voice doesn't mean that there actually WAS a voice. All the Judeo Christian Biblical stories come with multiple eye witnesses to the events recorded. Muhammad was illiterate, so how would God expect him to write down the words of the Quaran?
